Annotating IntroductionFrom Process Wiki
Purpose of the Process WikiWe have created this Wiki to act as a platform for sharing best practices in business process modeling. Other than exisiting sites that provide all kinds of information on BPM and process modeling we wanted to be able to share actual business process models. Using a "Wikipedia" style approach our aim is to become the number 1 resource for industry standard business process models. Processes like procurement-to-pay or hire-to-fire are generally very much standard, throughout different types of businesses. With the contribution of many subject matter experts the process models on this Wiki can grow into the defacto standard, giving you a reference model, or a jump start when designing new or optimized processes. For beginners it can be a rich library of example BPMN models, that can help understand the do's and don'ts of BPMN modeling. We have used the APQC Process Classification FrameworkSM (PCF) as a high-level, industry-neutral business process model hierarchy. What can be found on the Process WikiNext to BPMN models there is wide variety of information available about BPM related subjects, like Workflow, BPM, BAM, BPMN, XPDL, etc.. Although anyone can add articles that contain in-depth discussions on specific topics we encourage contributors to add links to websites, blog's, wikipedia pages, etc. that discuss these topics. There is a blog section on this Process Wiki where community members share their ideas and vision on business process management in general. Very much in the same style you can add news, or events. We have created a special section on BPMN modelers. Currently you have to use a BPMN modeler that can produce XPDL files, which need to be uploaded to the Process Wiki. We plan to develop an online editor in the near future. How to find contentYou can search for any kind of information, including business process models by using the search function in the left-hand sidebar. Another way of browsing through the business process models is to use the process hierarchy from the home page. A more refined way of searching in the repository with business process models is by means of the search page. The Process Wiki is created with use of the Semantic Media Wiki extension. This means that information is stored in RDF format, which means that you can search on all kind of properties of processes, including it's relations like involved roles. This allows for search commands like: give me all processes, from process category "develop vision and strategy", where the CFO is responsible. How to add contentProcessesCurrently processes have to be designed in an external BPMN editor and need to be in XPDL format before you can upload it to the Process Wiki. You can find suitable (free) BPMN editors here. In the near future we will add the possibility for online realtime editing of BPMN processes on Process Wiki. To add processes to Process Wiki use the menu option add content/Add Process. You will be prompted for a process name and a form will be displayed, where you can add the properties of the new process. Select and upload an XPDL file to complete the process. After saving the page, the process model and it's properties is displayed. A detailed example is availabe below. How to add a process
